Well, that's a bit of a stretch. We get pistons that are much lighter and with CNC accuracy, probably a bit more precise than the originals. It is cheaper to buy new manufacture pistons than to buy Ferrari OE pistons especially because they come with pins, clips and rings as a matched set. We have never had a problem with pistons from many companies such as JE, Weisco, Carello, and Cosworth. All of these are forged pistons that look like jewelry.

I suppose if you are alarmist you would replace every component such as rods, crankshaft etc.. but these items don't need to be replaced frequently. In fact, the only reason we replace the pistons is because we have to bore the cylinders and the originals will be too small, not because they are "worn out".

The majority of the rebuild parts for these engines just don't exist. Proper pistons and connecting rods aren't even in production for them. To properly rebuild one of these engines can cost over $100,000.

Many reason for smoke but even you rebuilt this engine perfectly you will have some little smoke
You can avoid this by machining the head as some factory cars.
In fact some engine have the rear end of heads drilled and a oil return pipe to sump
Best regards Philippe
