Group 4 Ferrari 308

Another nice group 4 competition car, a Michelotto 308 GTB. This car was dicing with a competition 365 GTB/4 Daytona on Friday and even with the advantage of cubic inches, the Daytona could not shake the 308. I was so impressed with the driving skill and enjoyed one of the best shows I have seen in vintage racing in a long time.

Shout Out the Group 3/4 Crew

Here is a great looking Porsche 911 photographed at the Cavallino Classic track day at Palm Beach International Raceway, Friday. Is this a Group 3 or 4 rally car or is it from another class of racing?

Authentic looking reproductions are very cool; a friend wants to make a tribute 911 Group 4 rally car in nasty 70′s livery – this car is too attractive in the Martini & Rossi colors

Ferrari Race Team

Not sure who owns these cars but they are the ones that were transported in the FIAT truck in the Ferrari team livery. The cars are in excellent condition mechanically but they are appropriately rough on the outside, a refreshing change to the glossy perfection that you typically see at the Cavallino. The Daytona that you see here was racing against a Michelotto 308 GTB on Friday for one of the best Vintage Ferrari races I have ever seen.

FIAT Hauler

This is a super cool truck, a former Ferrari team transporter that is now hauling some vintage cars.. The truck hauled a competition Daytona, a 750 Monza and a 275LM to Palm Beach International Raceway.

Trucks at Cavallino

Some friends of mine out of Tennessee converted this retired Ford/Grumman fire truck into a car hauler. It has a 235 Caterpillar engine and goes right  down the road. They have some great motor sports stickers all over the truck but are looking for more so if you have any I am sure they would like some more.

Two cars that I took to New Jersey last week, one is going overseas and the other is going to CA. I cannot remember if I delivered the correct car to the freight forwarder to put in a container.

Florida Trip, Cavallino Classic

Hey all out there, I am coming back next Sunday the 24th from Southern Florida with one car space in our enclosed transporter. It would be great to fill the truck to help offset the cost of fuel.

I would have two spaces but I am going to buy a car to bring back.

Beautifully restored gauges

These gauges are made by Smiths for Touring, a company in Italy who built bodies for Ferraris in the early 50′s. They built bodies for other brands like Maserati using light tubing for an armature and thin aluminum for the “skin”. They called this style of construction “superleggaria” or Super Light.

Since Touring of Milan built the body, they also outfitted the car with an interior and all the little delicate detailing such as door release handles and had Smiths make these beautiful gauges.

After photographing a number of Touring built cars with this style of gauge, I found  most to have a beige/tan background color where these gauges appear to have always been dark blue. Maybe because the car was originally dark blue? We carefully stripped the paint and could find no evidence of another color so we had them restored as you see them.

Video: 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi at the Dyno

We took the red 1984 Berlinetta Boxer to the dyno this week. The video has great sound, but turn it down if you’re at work.

Yet another Ferrari 330 GTC for sale

A California man is the proud new owner of the 330 GTC that was in a post a month ago, http://www.ferraricraft.com/2009/12/a-nice-photo-of-a-330-gtc-that-we-have-for-sale/ and now it is time for me to market another dark blue GTC. Similar to the last car we sold, this one had lots of cosmetic work done by another shop and when we acquired it, nearly every mechanical component needed attention!

There was a large oil leak at the engine when we first got the car, here is what we found jammed between the timing chest and the head! Once we removed the heads, we noticed bad bearing wear, terrible sand cast “el-cheapo” pistons and a plugged up cooling system. Needless to say, now the engine is completely overhauled and after a few years and 2-3000 miles, it is sorted and runs beautifully.

Here is another post I did on the transmission to this car. http://www.ferraricraft.com/2007/08/ferrari-330-gtc-transmission/

With a new radiator core, all new A/C components, axle boots, tires, clutch hydraulic components, this is an outstanding car!
