Drop Head Madness

As spring weather flirts with us, the shop flirts right back. Currently, not including open top race cars, we have five roadsters in progress (4 Healey, 1 Morgan), each one’s mecca being fun in the sun.

Austin Healey, Ferrari 308, a Morgan, and two more Healeys all the way in the back, and one out of view to the left.

What’s with the sudden unhealthy fascination with Austin-Healey’s? Giving up on the Prancing Horse?

We aren’t all Healeys, we’re just fresh out of Ferrari 330′s, and pretty busy getting the 212 fully sorted for Mille Miglia.

    John.

Last Tuesday the Ferrari 212 took a trip in the back of the truck to get on Air France Cargo to fly to Italy. The car drove so well at the race track but we decided to replace the Exclesior tires with Avon CR6ZZ FIA rally tires.

    Jack,

We like working on the Healeys because parts are available for them, we hate working on Healeys because the replacement parts are often junk and the doors slam shut on your shins when you get in and out of them.
    How is your Healey?

Healey is fine; still running strong. I also run it on Avon CR6ZZ tire, 175-R15′s. they are the correct radius and footprint so the steering doesn’t get heavy, and you don’t lose ground clearance like on the usual 165-R15 people put on. I can recommend some decent spots for better quality parts, if you need sources. And you can adjust the door check mechanism to work right.

I like those Avon’s We put them on a Ferrar 250 Lusso and a 275 GTB/4. The CR6′s make the OSCA handle perfectly so we recently put them on the 212 after finding the Excelsior tires to be unpredictable. You going to Rich and Jean’s Northwest Passage event?

Unfortunately Not… as of now…. It’s tough being a family man and having to fit things around everyone else. We may very well make it down to Texas, however….
