Well, it’s off to a new owner, I really liked this car because it was the only 330 2+2 that I have driven that felt like a GTC, super quick and smooth with an endless progressive throttle travel.

How Does the Jaguar XKE Look?

It looks very good to me, solid and straight. There is more “top rot” on the car than deterioration on the undercarriage.

The Interior is Finished

And it looks outstanding. We haven’t installed the front seats because we are working on a better set of seat belts but check in later for photos of the complete interior. The headliner looks amazing too, but Jim cursed the project because the material is much thicker and extremely difficult to work with, you’d never know by looking at the arrow straight pleats and detailing

Air Conditioning for 330 GTC

The orders keep coming in for A/C systems for 330′s so here are some photos of the process. The top photo shows the fabrication of the compressor brackets which use extremely thick steel as a substitute for proper engineering. We joke that well before the brackets are going to flex or distort, the studs that secure them to engine will break off. Anyhow, we copy parts accurately but can see that they are way overbuilt.

We also make the evaporator housing which holds a very dense core and squirrel cage fan. The original housing is made from steel but we make it from aluminum since it’s so much easier to work with and the part has a bunch of bends and needs huge holes drilled in the sides.  Since the part is buried under the dash, no one will ever know the difference especially if we give it a coat of light gold paint.

I have all the other parts coming in soon like the condenser, the compressor, drier bottle and all the fittings to complete the kit. It’s such a huge collection of parts and I have lots of stuff in stock but there is always one things that is missing. When its all together I will take a photo of the complete set up. I have a higher amperage alternator to send off with this kit, it’s an 80 amp unit from a 365 GT 2+2 but the 330′s with A/C originally came with Lucas 60 amp alternators

365 GTC/4 KONI Shocks

KONI gas charged self leveling shocks were installed in later production 4 seat Ferrari’s starting out at the 365 GT 2+2 up to the 400′s. Later 400′s and 412′s had hydraulic controlled self leveling shocks that adjusted by a little valve attached to the rear sway bar. KONI doesn’t make any parts to overhaul these self leveling shocks and rumor is that don’t even admit to having made them! We convert the rear shocks to adjustable ride height coil over units which takes away all the mystery because rebuild parts are available for these generic series 82 KONI’s.

330 GT 2+2 in for Re-Upholstery Job

It’s only original once.

This Ferrari 330 GT 2+2  interior is original but the wear and tear is getting a bit out of hand with cracked and split leather and blown out webbing in the seat bottoms.  The drivers seat is so crushed down that I couldn’t even see over the dashboard! The owner was thinking of changing the color but wisely decided to keep the red leather (slightly darker, less pink) and red wool carpets. Even though the headliner is in good condition, we are going to replace that material since the foam in the pleats is falling out and the glue is coming undone here and there.

A few things on ebay

If you get a chance, have a look at our ebay listings one of which is this spectacular 330 GT 2+2.

We just sold a very tidy Tool briefcase for a 365 series Ferrari and have a guy ready to purchase a steel roof rack for a Porsche 911 (and other German cars like VW’s). This is a super nice piece with an original equipment manufacturers sticker on it!

In the next few days I’m gonna get some other cars up there so I will let you know what I am posting and will see if Gene can start an ebay store to start selling the stuff we have been accumulating around her.

Ferrari 330 GT 2+2

These 330′s look so spectacular to me when painted in a bright color like this light blue or silver. We’ve done tons of work to this car to make it run and drive better than it looks.

Something about the rear of the car, the “C” pillar area above the rear wheel looks so great, so clean and pure. How can you argue with Italian design!

Couple of cars

Ferrari 330, Porsche 356

Ferrari 330, Porsche 356

A local guy just purchased this 330 GT 2+2 and has asked us to take a look at the car before he drives it this summer. It is one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen on a Ferrari, super crisp lines and totally flat panels because it was block sanded to perfection and there isn’t a spot of orange peel anywhere. These bigger Ferraris look great in colors such as Argento or Azuro.

The Porsche is ready for delivery after spending time to sort out some tie rod details and brake overhaul. I had a chance to take the car for a long drive and am continually amazed at how wonderful these cars are.

Ferrari “Queen Mother”

I had the great pleasure of driving this 1969 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 from Quebec City in Canada to our shop on Tuesday April 12 2011. It was fanatically restored by its owner who made sure every little detail worked in addition to making some upgrades to make it better than new.

If an electrical engineer looked at the wiring set up on the car they would run and hide. All of the electrical current that the car runs through the ammeter which is horribly under capacity. This car came from the factory with a wimpy 55 amp alternator, a paltry 40 amp ammeter and when the A/C is on, headlights blazing, don’t make the mistake of pushing the horn button or open the windows because you will have an electrical meltdown! The Previous owner happened to be an engineer  who remedied this in a very clever way.

He also kept the classic stereo VOXON in the dash but had a specialist modify the internals, now it operates as a modern high watt unit with all kinds of capabilities. The stereo sounds great and with the ice cold A/C, power steering and great power and visibility, you could drive this car every day without feeling like you will get run over by high speed traffic.

These Queen Mothers are hard to restore because they have so many intricate details.  To me they feel more like a Mercedes Benz than a Ferrari. The coachwork is impeccable, the car feels heavy and planted and it gets about 4 miles per gallon just like a 280 SE 6.9!
