XKE Jaguar Ready For a New Home

There was so much activity on this Jaguar that is sold quickly and effortlessly. I wish all deals were as seamless as this one. I like selling cars that are under no assumption of being operable, there aren’t any expectations of grandeur, it’s just an unemotional exchange of a commodity.

How Does the Jaguar XKE Look?

It looks very good to me, solid and straight. There is more “top rot” on the car than deterioration on the undercarriage.

Maserati Ghibli Project #2

Hi Jack, to answer your question, the car came to us as you see it and was transported by our creative and hard working friend Tom Munier from Exotic Car Transport in Orlando Florida. He and his driver are Saints for dealing with this move which as you can see is bulky and cumbersome with two 4″ by 8″ by 4″ tall crates and one slightly smaller crate. The car was on the “rotisserie” which seems like a well made unit but is the most awkward and impossible thing I have ever tried to move. Tom’s Car Transportation Company is one of the best in the business and I recommend everyone call him if you need a car moved (after you call me first).

We have to repair some things on the body and address every little part that bolts to this car. One of the guys spent the week categorizing many worn and broken parts and it seems that we have nearly everything especially the hard to find stuff like castings and interior trim. Some of the exterior trim is a little trashed but overall, we are starting from a complete deck of cards.

I have always liked the appearance of Maserati Castings because they looked like they were inspired by the human skeletal system. We had a Maserati A6GCS at the shop awhile ago and the rear axle center section casting looked like head protection for a man in armor. The A/C compressor bracket is a light and amazingly strong aluminum piece of beauty with rib like reinforcements and an odd use of negative space to keep things interesting.

Overhauled Porsche 911 Engine

A very good customer showed up last fall with one of my favorite cars, an early Porsche 911 Coupe. While the car did run and propel itself down the road, it needed lots of mechanical attention to remedy oil leaks, weak compression on a few cylinders and a huge list of other things. We decided that in order to enjoy the car in the future, we needed to go through the engine, transmission, brakes, clutch and other less dramatic things such as the heat and vent controls and … windshield wiper blades!

Here is a video of the engine running on the test stand to check for leaks and the adjustment of the ignition system and carburetors. This engine has German made Solex/Zenith carburetors, an Italian produced Magnetti Marelli distributor in combination with a French S.E.V Marchal Alternator.

New Water Pipe Run, Get’em While They’re Hot!

Stainless Steel Water Pipes 250, 330

Stainless Steel Water Pipes 250, 330

Tubing for Ferrari engine

Tubing for Ferrari engine

Since I have the jigs, stainless steel tubing and motivation, I decided to stock up on some commonly used water pipes for Ferrari 250′s. The top photo is a mixture of trashed original parts and my re-made parts that attach to the water pump and have a barb for the heater return and a threaded boss for the thermostat bypass. The pipe in the next photo is a custom job for a repilca 250 that was sent to me for duplication. This part doesn’t follow any of my jigs so I made a crude jig to complete this order. I’ve done 4 pipes recently for 1962 Ferrari 250′s, an early 1962 GTE, a ’62 250 PF Cab and two 1962 Short Wheelbase Berlinetta. Even though they should all be the same, all 4 of these are significantly different with barbs going in different directions and the main bend radius unique from one to the other. I’d like to know how these were made originally because there isn’t any consistency in  the style of construction or shape.

Is There Such A Thing As An Iconic Audi?

1984 Audi Turbo Quattro Coupe

1984 Audi Turbo Quattro Coupe

If there is, this may be the one. We just purchased this absolutely original 1984 Audi Turbo Quattro Coupe, aka the UR Quattro. I’m not going to get into the crazy details but this is a very rare car, hand assembled in a back room at the Audi facility. The letters UR are some odd reference to the German word for “primordial” or “original” as this car is the first generation Quattro which so many legends are based.

We have some work to make this car rock solid so you can buy it and chuck it over a rise on a gravel road or blast through the trees at the Maine Forest Rally. The next car we need is an E30 BMW M3. Then a Lancia Delta Integrale, followed by a RS200 Ford, my all time favorite car of all time of all the legends Iconic series

Ferrari Daytona

Last week I visited a friend and drove this amazing 1971 Ferrari 356 GTB/4 Daytona around town and was blown away at how nicely it performed. The odometer shows around 20,000 miles and based on the overall condition of the number of original components, I believe it. Since the car has had one conscientious owner for over 30 years it has a complete handbook set and full tool roll and has been serviced to make sure its in top condition at all times. Most Daytona’s are missing the original Magnetti-Marelli ignition boxes or Digi-Plex units but this car has them fitted on the front wheel arches in the engine bay.  My friend is selling the car so if you are interested let me know and I can make arrangements to have available for viewing.

Roman and I Sold the XK-120

After taking a look at the XK-120 in the barn a week ago,  I decided to buy it and dragged it out of the building where it rested since 1988. On Tuesday the 2nd, Roman and I delivered it to the new owner. Thanks for your help running the bed on the truck, Roman! He was wearing a shirt with a dragonfly screen print that said “Wing Man.” That little nipper certainly is my wing man!
