			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For the first time in over 50 years, these former Marzotto team cars are sitting side by side,  prepared once again to compete in the Mille Miglia.  Are these cars like working dogs, border collies or sled dogs who are anxious to work almost to their own demise or are they dreading the stress of the event?</p>
<p>The lighter red car is a Ferrari 340 America serial number 0030MT that belonged to my father, Peter Markowski for 35 years. He bought it as a worn out race car when he was in his late teens and restored over the course of many years then driving it for close to 100,000 miles. In the late 90&#8217;s our shop restored it again, overhauling the engine, transmission, brakes and other components. We performed a flawless pant job on the car and Peter sold it shortly after all that work was completed because he was not comfortable driving the car with reckless abandon as he used to.</p>
<p>The car sold to its current owner in Europe who disliked the perfection so performed some magic to make the car look more original followed by competing in many driving events which added some true &#8220;battle scars&#8221;.  My father was probably quite emotional seeing this old piece of his history next to a car that he and his sons built from the ground up.</p>
<p>A well known Ferrari historian is working to make arrangements to have the two cars shipped to the home of  Giannino Marzotto at Lake Como for a photo shoot and possible magazine article.  I hope this works out as Signior Marzotto may have some incredible stories of racing these cars in the early 50&#8217;s.</p>

<p>Syl is using <a href="http://www.rmpaint.com/" target="_blank">RM clear</a> on our projects lately, the Morgan, this Porsche, as well as a bunch of other projects over the last year or so. The stuff is SO clear, lays down so nicely and with next to no orange peel, straight out of the gun.</p>
<p>This Porsche had tons of rust, when we put it up in the air, the lift arms went right up into the frame at the torsion bar location and eventually started to pick the car off the ground! Now the body has been fixed, the car has paint, and it&#8217;s time for assembly.</p>

These panels are beautiful to see in person and I am impressed at how great they look in photographs. The technique for painting the fish is amazing.</p>
<p>Clear coat is not intended to go over bare metal, it typically needs primer or some sort of surface prep but the stuff is so high quality and hard, I have a feeling it will hold up great.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This engine had low miles on an complete overhaul. It came in for us to check out, but after finding that the compression was low and the leak down numbers were terrible, we pulled it apart.</p>
<p>The cylinders were polished like a mirror and piston rings had lost their temper. The main and rod bearings are wiped out, and due to major detonation, the rod bearings were hammered to the point that they fell right out of the cap when they should be held in firmly with spring tension.</p>
<p>What a mess. I am doubting that it was actually overhauled because the whole engine was &#8220;buzz-bomb&#8221; painted right over dirt and all of the hardware.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>These gauges are made by Smiths for Touring, a company in Italy who built bodies for Ferraris in the early 50&#8217;s. They built bodies for other brands like Maserati using light tubing for an armature and thin aluminum for the &#8220;skin&#8221;. They called this style of construction &#8220;superleggaria&#8221; or Super Light.</p>
<p>Since Touring of Milan built the body, they also outfitted the car with an interior and all the little delicate detailing such as door release handles and had Smiths make these beautiful gauges.</p>
<p>After photographing a number of Touring built cars with this style of gauge, I found  most to have a beige/tan background color where these gauges appear to have always been dark blue. Maybe because the car was originally dark blue? We carefully stripped the paint and could find no evidence of another color so we had them restored as you see them.</p>

Ferraris 250&#8217;s with the Bendix/Bonaldi booster had a reservoir cap with a steel mesh under an aluminum disc to allow the bottle to vent. Under the mesh is a small hole directly into the brake fluid reservoir. As you can see, there is lots of opportunity for crud to get into the fluid from this rusty build up in the mesh. I took the aluminum disc off, made a new spacer ring and welded it onto the cap. I sent the part of to be cad plated and made a new aluminum disc, installed stainless steel wool under the and wrinkle finish painted it. Voila!</p>

<p>A gorgeous Dark red that a prominent Ferrari Historian calls &#8220;mature&#8221;.</p>

It is beautiful!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Before we delivered this Austin Healey 3000 to its new home, the purchaser wanted to make the car his by having us paint the &#8220;coves&#8221; ivory. I thought it was a great idea and Syl did an amazing job with the paint. The car was very nicely detailed to start with and with this color contrast, the car looks great.</p>
<p>Syl has been using a new clear coat that needs next to no wet sanding and polishing. The clear is so crystal perfect and it lays down with no orange peel. He just shot some Ferrari Boxer wheels and they are perfect! Loving that <a href="http://www.rmpaint.com/" target="_blank">RM paint</a>!</p>
